Cocktails Squished By Feet

Sexy Grape Cocktails
Y’all are telling me Jordan’s doing goooood with the whole “Make me something good! Yay!” So I’m gonna go ahead and throw him to the lions (uh, you) again, with stuff that sounds boring but isn’t. ISN’T! Pinky swear.

That thing is…grapes. That means Manhattan style drinks with different styles of Vermouth. It also means Cognac. And Armagnac. And Pisco. And Amontillado. In other words, you’re gonna be happy.

You just didn’t think about grapes that way before. But they’re, well, they’re… sexy. You know where (uh, Feedback Lounge) and you know when (like, 6ish?).

The First Cocktail

September 18, 2014

Old Fashioned

Most people think the Sazerac was the first real cocktail. They’re probably very nice, but also super wrong. The first cocktail was an Old Fashioned, because a cocktail was defined as spirit, sugar, water, and bitters.

These days that covers a ton of territory as long as you don’t mind defining “sugar” as “booze that’s kinda sweet.” Which I do not.

So tonight Jordan and myself will make Old Fashioneds. Gin Old Fashioneds, Armagnac Old Fashioneds with grapefruit liqueur, Agricole Rhum Old Fashioneds with apple hooch… And even regular Old Fashioneds like you’re used to them.

Let’s get started about 6, yes? Yes. Wheeee!

Comedy Night: 1 Year Anniversary

September 13, 2014

Just Laugh It Off

Time to pop the champagne and/or Budweiser – our JUST LAUGH IT OFF COMEDY NIGHT series celebrates its one year anniversary on Wednesday, September 17th, 8PM with a stellar line-up of terrific and funny rising star comedians. As always, this is a free show.

Headlining the show is stand-up comedian/actor/writer ROBERT PIDDE, with very special guests MONA CONCEPCION, ABRAHAM BEHALIU, WILFRED PADUA and SHAWN ARMISTEAD. And let’s not forget our incredible host, DARYL COXY.

A taste of Robert’s good-natured humor…

“People say going to McDonald’s for a salad is like going to a prostitute for a hug. But sometimes you just need a hug.”

“Quitting candy cigarettes is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Doesn’t feel like these sugar patches are doing ANYTHING.”

“Saw a man propose inside a Kay Jeweler in the mall. Decided that all milestones shouldn’t be done within 100 yards of any Wetzel’s Pretzels.”

Plums, Cocktails, The New Guy

Plum Cocktails
Dear Friends,

So: tonight’s the first Thursday with new guy Jordan – and I’ll say this: I picked him out, stole him from downtown bar and had Gia run him through his paces because he can a.) make really good drinks, FBL style, and b.) he’s infectiously smiley and stuff.

So, let’s put him to the test. No theme, you tell him what you like and he’ll make it. Oh, and also, you know, me. Yeah, alright, I’ll bring some delicious fresh plums to use for poos and giggles to keep you interested. Test the system for me? Thanks. Also, I heart you.  Shall we say, 6ish?

Fall Into The Blues

September 3, 2014

Blues To Do September

Saying goodbye to summer is enough to give anyone the blues. Ironic that we have a great line-up of post-summer blues music for you…

Cory P. McDaniels is a veteran entertainer playing a blend of blues, roots ‘n roll, jazz-Americana, and some good travelin’ music, telling great stories, winding through life like a Northwest Grateful Dead or Blues Brothers. Rekindled from Seattle bands Butterfat and Earthquake & The Tremors, The GJR includes Billy Reed on keyboards, (Kathi McDonald, Jeff & The Jet City Fliers), Donnie Teasdale on percussion vocals & mandolin, Ed Rooney on bass and remarks, and Bill Frazer on lap steel, guitar, sound engineering and more, with special guests Daddy Treetops and Easy Eddie King. FYI: “Gone Johnson” is an old expression alluding to the mental deterioration of a person. The GJR provides unhinged and misguided entertainment for the Northwest.

Eric Apoe – often compared to Tom Waits – returns with his band: Dr. John Hanford on guitar, Valerie Rosa on vocals, Olli Klomp on drums, Alicia DeJoie on violin, Steve Peterson on whistle, and Jim DeJoie on clarinet and bass clarinet. Original blues, rock, folk and more.

Vinyl Avengers is a side project for three of the Dusty 45s, including their newest member/master pianist, Arthur Migliazza, plus the outrageous Billy Joe Huels on insane upright bass & flaming trumpet and Kelly Van Kamp, drummer, singer and harmonica genius. Get here early for this one.

Tommy Wall hosts an award winning weekly blues jams in the unlikely place of Fall City, Washington and this is his new trio with the amazing Doug Kearney on guitar and the wise beatings of Woody Robinson on drums. This results in a sophisticated New Orleans infected sound that is upbeat, danceable and energetic. Tommy and Doug write great originals mixed with choice covers in one of the strongest new bands on the Northwest music scene.

At only 22, Cody Rentas is a young talent here for the long run with great experiences so far including being selected to be a member of the Brotherhood of the Guitar by Grammy Award winning producer/guitarist Larry Mitchell. His involvement in Robben Ford’s guitar camp has been significant in his growth as an artist and his playing easily brings that comparison, yet Cody has his own sound that blends blues and rock and features Lee Rentas, his powerful papa on drums/vocals, plus Freddy Lamour on bass, and Scott Schmeckpepper on keyboards/vocals.
